Well it’s a $1000 Camaro now that it’s registered into 2019 and in my name. Here are all the issues.

Mechanical problems: Something in the Left front is noisy on the dirt road, probably a balljoint.

The car runs hot, I saw the gauge climb 80% of the way up before cycling back down. This is partly due to the fact that the fans dont turn on for some reason, and possibly a thermostat issue. Ill replace the ect sensor(controls the fans) and the thermostat.

Cosmetics: The T-top leaks, the headliners ruined, dash is cracked, lots of little fisherprice plastic bits are missing, the CD player dosent work, the paint’s 5/10 with a little clear coat peel, and there’s some residual duct tape all over the passenger door.

All in all I’m pleased and I have something to tinker on.(the Lexus no longer needs tinkering, it needs expensive parts)

Overheat problems + trashed t-tops and headliner + V6 auto + broken plastic, duct tape, CD player fail, and bad paint = ten mullets out of ten.

I’d bet you can add a rear pinion seal leak to that too. Probably. :)

I saw a leaky cover but I’m not gonna investigate that axle any further. Ignorance is bliss

That doesn’t sound like too bad of a list, pretty manageable. Ordered more or less by priority, I see. Definitely want to give that wheel a shake and find out what’s going on there ASAP.

When fixing your overheat issues make sure the lower air deflector is intact beneath the radiator support. If they are missing or bent back severely the car will overheat at speed. Its even worse if they are missing in a Firebird of the same vintage. About 80 at a dealership new, but any plastic deflector from a wrecking yard will work if about the same size as the OE one.

The air deflectors intact for now, So far it’s only happened at idle or 5mph(going uphill on a mile long driveway), but it might be a non-issue and the gauge just reads high under load with little airflow.(it dosent boilover it just cycles at a higher temp)

On my 1995 Firebird with the same setup, I had to replace the fans entirely but hopefully it is just the sensor. Cracked dashes plague many fourth-gen fbodies.

After making this post I hooked up a scanner and the ect was giving off a reading.

When the ects unplugged the fans come on.

But if the ac’s triggered the fans don’t come on even though they should. I’m a little confused

Now that is interesting. You might have head gaskets that need attention as well if this is happening. I know in the Z28 of the same vintage the fans were set ridiculously high so it could clear emissions, don’t really think the V6 would be subject to that though.

Interestingly, the one time the fans came on(with the ect plugged in)they actually shut off while the temp was still rising. Ill hook the scanner and let the car heat up and see what the sensors actually getting (as opposed to what the gauge says)
